A gentle breeze whistled through long forgotten ancient structures and raced along the golden grasses making them appear like waves on the ocean. The primary sun was already high in the sky and shining down on Mireh creating a wonderful warm glow which warmed the soul just as much as it warmed the early morning. Distant laughter rolled over the plains, disturbing the serene landscape though giving plenty of warning to otherwise unsuspecting herds to make themselves scarce lest they become someones next meal.
A trio of Saltwater Tsabhua, large and lumbering their weight slowly and without rush over the gentle hillsides, made their way to a rather sizable lake within the golden fields whilst chattering and laughing without a worry.
"-and then he said, 'wait, that is not a Jaebo!'" Lantana concluded; her punchline receiving joyful laughter from both Lantana and Torook, her two companions on the journey.
After a hearty belly laugh which nearly stopped her in her tracks, Rita gasped and gestured with her head "Look over there! The lake! Finally it is time for a swim!" she picked up the pace, now galloping across the landscape with alarming speeds considering her bulk. "Race you there!" she called back.
"Hey! No fair!" Lantana called back before encouraging Torook to follow as she lifted up her body and ran after her friend. Taking on the challenge, Torook followed suit however as the largest of the three he was not quite as nimble and lagged well behind the others. The golden grasses left telltale trails as the trio trampled their way down the slops and to the crystal clear lake. Squeals of laughter and delight followed the splashing sound of Lantana and Rita jumping at speeds into the waters reached Torook's ears causing him to smile with delight. However as he rounded a small rock so as to not trip, he came skidding to a halt. His claws dug deep into the soft muddy ground in an attempt to stop him from careening straight into some strange looking structures on the ground. Torook recognised a similar structure as being a nest of some sort and did not wish crush anything that may be in there. Luckily, he halted enough to only break one wall of one of the nests; although this fact made his heart sink slightly and he let out an "oh no".
"What is the hold up!" Lantana called out to Torook "Do not be a Bokbok!" however when she did not receive a reply, she became a little concerned, a fact which carried in the tone of her voice. "Are you alright?"
"I think... I think I broke something important.." Torook replied without breaking focus from the nest. Rita waded herself out of the lake, the clear water dripping off of her and seeping into the muddy bank as she walked carefully towards Torook - closely followed by Lantana.
"What is it?" Rita asked, looking down at where he was focused before letting out a soft "oh". They each took a moment to take in the scene before Lantana gathered a little courage to ask.
"Was there... you know.."
"No, empty as far as I can tell." He replied. The two friends released a relieved exhale and exchanged a soft nervous giggle. However Torook seemed much more invested in this that the others had expected of him. "I want to fix it."
"We do not even know if they are abandoned. And it is odd that there is three..." Rita gestured at the three oddly shaped nests before them, each seemingly constructed with different techniques albeit similar materials. However, seeing the determination now plastered over Torooks face, Rita sighed in resignation. "Fine. I will help. Though I was looking forward to a nice swim..." she grumbled, though not really putting her heart into it.
As the trio began to walk away from the nests to gather some materials, another trio of creatures appeared from the thick reedy grasses carrying what seemed to be the nesting materials. Everyone startled in surprise at the unexpected appearance of the other group.
"Oi! What do you think you are doing?" Haikiko snarled, dropping her various twigs and reeds she had collected in order to get herself into a threatening position. The Sohisra were significantly smaller than the Tsabhua which stood before them, however this did not stop Haikiko at all. She fanned her fingers out to show off her sharp and long claws as she lowered her head slightly - positioned to use her horns if needed.
"My nest!" Stori Kirra called out, forgetting what was going on and rushed forward to her broken nest by the feet of Torook. Vypr tried to call out to stop her, but she had no intentions of listening. Torook stepped backwards in alarm at being rushed, but relaxed once it was clear that he was not the target.
"I.. I am so sorry." Torook began to apologise, but Kirra looked up at him with a great sadness in her eyes which stopped him.
"I told you this place was too in the open." Vypor snarked at Haikiko, which caused her to lower her guard and bicker back at him.
"It is perfectly fine! How could I have expected these big lumbering oafs to trample our work?!"
"Hey!" Rita called out, but a simultaneous glare from Vypr and Hiakiko stopped her in her tracks.
Lantana took the opportunity to chime in "We were just about to head out to find some materials to help fix this for you."
"Do you not see you have done enough damage!" Vypr snapped, a huge attitude for the smallest Sohisra. "Get out of here, before we make you leave!"
"Geeze, what hurt you..." Lantana retorted angrily, her sympathy now gone for the other two Sohisra though Torook was clearly still feeling guilty.
"Look, everyone, it is alright." Stori Kirria stood up, having cleared her eyes of the tears which swelled. "This was a practice nest. It is just... disappointing." she smiled up at Torook who smiled weakly back.
Lantana and Rita began to turn, leaving to go back to the lake and leave these small angry creatures to their nest practices. "Come on Torook" Rita called to him. "Let us head back."
However Torook shook his head at her. "No thank you. I want to stay and try to help make things right."
Rita snorted "Suit yourself. Come on Lantana." And the pair made their way back to the lake to resume their swimming.
Without saying another word, Torook began to gather some of the nearby reeds, cutting them free with his own claw, and sat to begin weaving them together in a basket shape. Also without saying anything, Stori Kirra approached and sat near him, beginning to make a second practice nest out of materials she had collected - and of course peering over to what the large Tsabhua was doing and incorporated some of those weaving techniques into her own attempt. Vypr and Haikiko, however, kept their distance due to distrust of the strange creature as they made their own next attempts in nest building. The day waned and Torook had made many woven basket structures, some more nest-like than others, before he bid his own farewell to the trio of Sohisra and made his way down to the lakeside where Lantana and Rita had been sun baking.
