It was a busy day in the hospital it seemed. A deep blue-purple tsab entered the Tsidal hospital, rainy footprints making the lobby floor a bit squeaky. Hearing the bell at the door, Rozwel turned to Konno. "Can you get on the transponder and radio for Maztik to get here? We have more clients today and I need some backup." Konno nodded, and scurried out to the lobby. "Hashbrown, maybe you could grab a towel. If we're getting this much traffic in the rain our lobby could quickly get slippery." Rozwel assigned Hashbrown a task as well.
"Hello!" The blue tsab greeted the young Tark'ee as he appeared. "Hi! I'm calling another doctor to walk over to help you out. Our current doctor is busy with a patient, but Maztik is just across the street so she'll be right here." Konno quickly explained the situation.
Urchin nodded "okay, no worries." And sat down on the comfy waiting room chairs. They were some sort of leather material that was easy to clean, but were giant beanbags so were squishy and comfortable even if you had an injury as they formed around you to support whatever shape sat in them. Urchin looked around the room as Konno made his call. The waiting room was normally bright and cheery but the heavy rain outside had put a damper on things. The massive floor to ceiling windows that normally let tons of natural lighting in, now only held darkness and the spattering of huge droplets on the glass. The light instead came from a couple of floor lamps and an overhead white light that didn't too too much for the space. Plants still dotted the lobby though, adding comfort in the form of spots of green and colored flowers throughout the space.
Finally having retrieved a towel, Hashbrown trotted in and began mopping up the lobby, and Konno finished his call. "Maztik will be here in 3 minutes" he announced to Urchin, who nodded politely in return.
Before long, Maztik did indeed burst through the door, rain slicker on, but bootless. "Hand me that towel" she barked at Hashbrown who had just finished with the lobby floor. "I won't make more of a mess for you". She smiled, trying to control her tone to a less harsh note- not her strong point.
After Maztik wiped her feet and removed the rain slicker she turned to the tsab waiting. "I'm Maztik, I'll be your doctor. Sorry for the rush in." Urchin smiled back, graciously. "It's alright. I'm Urchin. I'm having a problem with my paw."
Maztik nodded and gestured for Urchin to follow her to a patient room. Konno and Hashbrown exchanged a glance before scurrying after as well. They didn't want to sit around bored…. Or worse! Cleaning. As the patient door was closing, the two Tark'ee slipped inside and stayed out of the way, keen on watching.
Maztik noticed the pair but pretended not to and went about her job. "Alright lemme take a look. Which paw is it?" Urchin held up the front left.
Maztik went about touching each individual digit to see where the pain was. No string reactions or seemingly painful spots jumped out. Maztik frowned and observed the wrist, tapping spots as well to see if there was pain in a specific area. "Can you bend your wrist without pain?" She asked, focused on her task. Urchin nodded and did as asked. "No pain there" the tsab reported.
Maztik squinted at the paw. It would not get the best of her. "Can you flex your toes without pain?" She asked. Again, Urchin did as asked, but this time sucked in a breath as clearly something was painful as the tsab did that motion. Maztik let a grin escape her. There was the problem! Indeed it would not evade her.
Konno and Hashbrown continued to look on, mentally comparing Maztik's methods to Rozwel. They had to admit, the blue belemoid seemed a little bit better than Maztik. Still laying them no mind, Maztik turned over Urchin's paw to examine the pad. "Aha!" She said suddenly, gingerly using the tip of a dulled claw to move aside the big paw pad in the center. Between the largest pad and a middle toe was a buried burr of epic spiny proportions. It was firmly stuck to both parts of the paw.
"I have found the culprit" Maztik announced. " Konno, Hashbrown, I need you to run to the lobby". She said, with little explanation. The whelps, not one to argue with the belemoid, did as they were told and rushed through the door to the lobby. As Urchin was focused on the two of them leaving, Maztik craftily chose her moment and plucked out the burr.
A sharp yelp escaped from the blue tsab as the burr came free from Urchin's paw, but the tsab had to admit, that was a good move to have Konno and Hashbrown provide a distraction for Maztik to do her dirty work. Urchin flexed the paw and this time had no pain. The problem was solved.
