Trinity, Layna and Moon Stone stood in awe of the structures around them.

"I have never seen anything like this before" Moon Stone speculated aloud as she ran her long dark claws over the grates before them. Thick and rusted bars held in place an ominous and foreboding warning to those who would dare to attempt entry into the dark passages that laid within. Grasses, ferns and saplings had begun laying claim among the cobbled stones which made up the walls and floor of this place, the ruins that led them here equally covered by lush greenery and thus hidden from casual viewing.
It was abundantly clear to all who stood there that this place was very deliberately hidden, but how long ago was a mystery. No text, reports or myths of this place existed before. A true mystery.
"How long do you reckon it has been here for?" Layna, a dark Tsabhua, looked around with wonder and awe with her deep violet eyes, playing with the stones which made up one far wall and discovering that some were quite loose.
"Hard to say" Moon Stone replied, her voice drifting off with thought "It looks both new and old, advanced yet simple. I cannot pin point a time where this structure with this style of construction would have been made"
Trinity, a crimson Belemoid with piercing yellow eyes, sat back and enjoyed the cool offered by the shade - an unseasonably warm day she did not appreciate. Despite her apparent lack of interest whilst weaving her claws around grasses and small flowers, Trinity spoke up in a very matter of fact way.

"And what of the markings on the wall; any idea of what they could mean?"
"Markings?" Layna and Moon Stone parroted at the same time, looking up and around at the walls which surrounded them.
"Yes, those over there, next to the grates." Trinity did not gesture nor did she look up from her flowers, tired and bored of waiting, her mind clearly wandering to other unrelated matters.
Sure as Trinity said, strange markings and inscriptions were carved into the stonework, a script that none of those present recognized.
"What in B'av...." Moon Stone's voice trailed off as she traced one of the symbols before her. "I have never seen such a language before. Is it even a language?" her rhetorical question did not remain rhetorical as Layna took it upon herself to answer.
"It looks like... a code? Each vaguely related to the next in a counter clockwise direction, look!" she gestured from the far right, over the area above the gate, and down over to the far left. "Do you see it?"
"Oh yeah!" Trinity chimed in, now excited once again. A new discovery piquing her interest in the mystery once more. "Maybe it is related to that panel over there." she speculated aloud, earning her blank and slightly annoyed stares from her peers.
"Panel?" Moon Stone asked flatly, hoping Trinity would finally communicate her own discoveries.
"Yes, you know, the panel?" Trinity walked up to the rusting gate and moved something which had previously looked to be part of the stone wall, but yet Trinity interfering with it caused it to open and reveal a crude looking display above a handful of buttons. Each button containing a symbol which also seemed to correspond with the symbols surrounding them.
"You did not think to ... you know... share this with us earlier?" Layna finally lost patience, her voice rising and echoing with every word.
"I thought you knew" Trinity replied, not looking behind her at her companions. "At least you know now."
Seeing Layna about to loose her temper, Moon Stone stepped in and paused the Tsabhua by placing a hand on her arm. "Now we can try the codes, which I assume that is a lock and these etchings around us clues."
Layna huffed, crossing her arms and shrugging Moon Stone off of her. "Not very secure if they leave the clues by the entrance." she grumbled in a low voice.
This earned her a laugh from Moon Stone - whether it was heightened by the tension in the air or was genuine was hard to tell even for herself, but the laugh echoed all around them. Hauntingly, the laugh seemed to echo back at them from behind the gated entrance to whatever it was they stood before.
"Well, that was unsettling." Layna stated flatly after the shock from the echo had long faded.

Trinity and Moon Stone sounded their agreement through mutters.

Unsettling indeed.
